The last couple of times Mal talked to his mechanic, they were not exactly happy times.

Mal will at least attempt to change this, as he heads to the engine room from his bunk, fresh from Milliways.

It's late.

Kaylee's starting to feel sleepy, even. She's in her hammock, braiding and unbraiding wires. Something to do with her hands.

She finishes the braid, and begins to coil it around -- a bracelet, a ring, a hook, a snake, a spiral.

Even when Mal and Inara weren't Mal and Inara, he would hardly ever knock on the door before entering her shuttle, and really wouldn't knock if he had good somethin' or other to share.

As the latter applies, he walks in brightly to the engine room and peers around the wrong side of the turbine first in search of Kaylee.

Kaylee looks up.

"Captain?"

A little curious.

A little wary.

That's when Mal hits his head on the turbine junction by standing too fast too close to machines he doesn't understand.

"Kaylee!" Mal smiles anyway. "Lilly's back!"

Well he gets to the point, don't he?
