The Tarp Personality Test

I do a lot of work with various novel objects with horses in our therapeutic riding program. The more bombproof they are, the better, especially since we use a lot of toys and games in our lessons. It's always interesting to see how each of the five horses reacts differently to something new. Usually, I can predict what their reactions are likely to be based on what I know of their personalities, but sometimes they surprise me!

Our big lead gelding turned out to be absolutely horrified by the giant beach ball I rolled into the pasture one day... he drove the other horses (some of whom were completely unconcerned) to the other end of the pasture, then stood there tossing his head and glaring at the ball. He wasn't going to let the scary, horse-eating beach ball near his herd!

Truly, this is one of the more entertaining parts of my job. :)

*Laughs.* That would have been quite something else to see, the gelding herding up his crew and taking them away from the terribly threatening ball!

I think along with seeing their initial reactions, it is fun to watch them grow and become more bold and confident.
