Title: Baby, It's You
Rating: PG
Pairing: Jude/Max
Summary: If you haven't noticed, I am rather obsessed with this fandom. So I've decided to just keep writing things for it, some longer than others, all part of the same universe. And all named after Beatles songs with silly Beatles references in them. THAT'S RIGHT. (And don't worry, I have about a million ideas, so there will be more...)
This installment: Jude tries to find ways to cheer up Max. FLUFF!
Therefore...

When Jude comes back from Liverpool, things get a little better. Max only has nightmares when he's asleep.
They don't talk about why that's a relief.
Jude gets weird about telling Lucy that he and Max are together, so she doesn't know yet. She's never home anyway, and there are plenty of reasons for Jude to sleep in the same bed as Max - he's the only one who can help the nightmares, anyway. And Lucy would do anything for her brother.
Jude spends his time creating art, and trying to find things that will make Max happy. He tries to remember what things were like before everything got all fucked up.
Max and Jude wander around New York City, which is a great place for wandering. When they encounter anti-war protests, Jude just squeezes Max's hand, pulls him into a nearby alleyway, and kisses him. Max would tell him that he doesn't need to do it, but... Max likes it. So he doesn't.
They go to Central Park, which is rather enormous considering it's right in the middle of a city. Jude remembers Strawberry Fields, and makes it his goal to find it again. Trouble is, they always get distracted by things, like a little old lady walking a huge bulldog they name Mr. Dog, or children floating their yellow submarines in the lake.
"Scrambled eggs," sings Jude. "Darling, how I love your legs." He wiggles his eyebrows suggestively at Max, who rolls his eyes playfully. Jude knows that he hasn't acted like this much of a five year old since he was three, but he doesn't care. He's cheering up Max, and that's all that matters.
Jude isn't perfect, though, and he has his moments of melancholy - thinking about Lucy who loves him, or his mother alone in Liverpool who will be working until the day she dies. It's like the clouds crossing the sky, temporarily blocking out the sun. Times like that, you can either wait it out, or hope for the wind to move the clouds along.
"My mother loves tulips," says Jude wistfully, glancing at a patch of flowers. "'Course, we don't have 'em in Liverpool. She just saw 'em in pictures in books, says she wanted to see the tulips someday."
Max kisses him on the temple, and then whispers, "Does she like strawberries?"
"Huh?"
Max pulls on Jude's hand, and leads him over beyond some neighboring trees. He lies down in the grass and looks up at Jude.
Jude's eyes light up as he flops down next to Max. "Strawberry Fields!"
"Yeah," says Max, stretching his arm out for Jude to rest his head on. They fit next to each other in the easy way they always do, kicking each other's feet and sneaking kisses when the other looks away.
Jude glances at the ground, and picks a strawberry. He looks at it for a moment as if remembering something, and then pops it into his mouth. He glances over at Max. Max cups Jude's cheek, and leans in, and they share the strawberry. They kiss for a few long moments, savoring each other's company and the privacy of their own little hideaway.
Jude picks a daisy and tucks it behind Max's ear. For a moment, Max doesn't feel like a battered, broken Vietnam veteran. He feels young and in love. He grabs Jude's hand and pulls him up so they can continue wandering.
