So, uh. Week 5 in the Patchwork family didn't really go as I had planned. Not that I plan very rigorously, but I think you'll see what I mean. It's another big update, so
maybe you'll want popcorn.
Day 1 started early, as most households with young children tend to do.
This is the first day of school for Amelia and Luke: they were quite eager to get going, I'm sure.
They had a grand total of $95, since someone decided they needed even more groceries. I sold the excess groceries back, restoring their funds to a little under 1,000. 8|
But it's nice to earn an income so with no kids underfoot, Jemima and Dongsool headed to the boutique again.
There's always someone pregnant, lol.
Patchwork Patterns reached Rank 9, much to my pleasure. :D I still plan for the Patchwork family to purchase Jackalope Grocery, but not until a) Patchwork Patterns is Rank 10 and b) Jack and Dongsool are both elders. That will make it Week 6, at the very least.
I really hate when sims get behind the counter. 8|
It always causes route-blocking, not to mention I would freak out if a customer did that at work.
I think the store needs a bit of an expansion, but the lot's too small to do anything meaningful. :C Also, note this townie in the beanie. She has been turning up pretty regularly on my community lots, but I haven't had the foggiest idea who she is, or why she had a beanie when that sort of thing isn't generated in townies. Jemima had a chat with her and I finally worked it out - she's one of the neighbourhood thieves. LOL.
Business went pretty well, overall. Jemima routinely asked sims to leave if they were not buying or browsing. Make way for sims with money!
Hey, it's Matt! :D Lol, I didn't even realise that he was there. He blends in. 8|
They racked up a nice $3000 profit before closing - they're also only 19 stars away from being a rank 10 business. The business itself is currently worth $63,000. It will probably be inherited by Luke, but I think Amelia will get the house. Not quite sure yet.
I still haven't fixed the computer. 8|
The kids came home with B+ grades so in the afternoon, the parents taught the virtues of homework.
And then Jemima grew up in the middle of it. Second elder. 8( My founders are getting old, wah. She also grew up badly, whoooops. I can count the number of sims I've had grow up badly on one hand. 8|
Dongsool rolled 3 wishes to get it on with her, so clearly elderhood doesn't worry him in the slightest. I've never liked how sims age into Elder stage so sharply, so Jemima was tweaked a bit.
I rather like it. Everyone was absolutely exhausted by 8pm, so they all turned in rather early... except the household mechanic.
Jemima spent most of Day 2 skilling, to help raise her aspiration a bit.
Dongsool wanted to raise his mechanical and was also in need of an aspiration boost, so I braved fixing the computer. 8|
He survived! :D
The kids went to school, Dongsool studied mechanical alongside Jemima, who was trying to max out her cooking skill.
This is when I realised what Amelia would do for a business when she became an adult. PATCHWORK BAKERY. You know it would rock. :C
I actually took a detour from playing and went and built the Bakery whilst the idea for it was in my head. 8| Worth it.
I might have gone overboard with deco, it will cost $44,000 to buy. 8| Whatever I don't care, it's pretty.
Life in the Patchwork household resumed thereafter, with the kids coming home from school in due time.
Amelia brought a friend home. :D They played around in the yard, as kids should do.
Also, I bought a telescope for them because... why not? Telescopes are fun. They didn't use it much though, preferring to mess around.
Once the kids were in bed (and Nebula went home), Dongsool gravitated towards the telescope for some stargazing.
And something gravitated towards him.
Dongsool crawled into bed after his ordeal, and the family clung to the normal aspects of life.
The novel Jemima wrote brought in $2,400 - about the same cost as the telescope, so that's paid off.
They headed to the boutique after that, to earn a bit more money.
I don't know what this guy's beef was, he hadn't gone anywhere near Dongsool.
Ivy, NO.
You cannot canoodle with him. That is not allowed. 8| Jemima asked both Jack and Ivy to leave, so that there would be no ACR finangling.
This was the 125th Customer Loyalty Star - Patchwork Patterns is officially Rank 10! :D I cashed in the money rewards, giving the family a total of 80,000 in funds - plenty with which to purchase Jackalope Grocery. The kids won't have much money when they move out - even less, factoring in a certain unborn alien spawn - but that's okay. They'll manage.
Back at home, Jemima exercised her 10 cooking skill points.
THEY STILL DON'T HAVE A SMOKE ALARM. FRAMMIT.
They survived thanks to Jemima's fire-fighting skills, though it got bigger before they could get rid of it. The kids slept through this, thankfully. It just. Ugh. Jemima has a way with fires.
Dongsool was up rather early on Day 4.
Looks like the baby is due... saturday? Maybe sunday, my maths is a bit off.
The twins won't grow up until sunday or monday. If it's monday, I might give them a birthday cake. I want them to be teens in week 6, not gonna lie.
I added some playing equipment for the kids, since Nebula's a regular visitor and if Amelia inherits the house, she and Nebula will definitely be in need of it.
Lol, I love how families evolve. This is not even remotely close to what I had thought the family would look like in Week 5.
Nebula is now friends with both Amelia and Luke. :)
Day 5 and Dongsool got a bit bigger.
This is stage 3 now, so the baby must be due tomorrow/day 6. Fun times!
Jemima made lunch, but Dongsool couldn't wait. He stuffed his face to his satisfaction.
I love the window effect - can you tell? :C It makes life interesting.
Not cool, Alabama. :C
I'm not really one for the happy-sunshine-family-all-smiles kind of lifestyle because I think it's unrealistic. Families are dysfunctional more often than they are not - that is how humans are, among other things. So, when I see a genuinely happy instance (like the shot above which is from autonomous actions), then it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. :3
Of course, it didn't last.
I may not have a fire alarm, but there is a burglar alarm. Beware, thief. BEWARE.
DON'T BLOCK THE ENTRANCE.
The family got $500 for the event, which is nice. They were all up and about by then though, so messed up sleeping schedules settled on the horizon. On the flipside, they were all awake for this! :D
...yeah, Amelia was having a beer when all this was happening. I don't even know. 8| Anyway! Meet Harlequin. :D A pretty blue alien girl, born in the pre-dawn hours of Day 6. Er. No room for her though. Oops.
Fixed.
I will eventually have a Xenophobia challenge, so be prepared for plenty of this! :)
Truth be told, I did execute this using Dongsool's "summon aliens" Knowledge reward. It was a total impulse decision. If Jemima hadn't become an elder, they probably would have had another baby anyway, lol. For the most part I don't want my families to have more than three children - most will have just two. These guys were going to have two, but, well. Impulse overruled, lol.
There were quite a few midday naps, that day.
Silly burglar, messing everyone up. 8| The rest of the day passed quietly. I got the notification the twins would grow up in 1 day, so yay. They'll be teens before the week ends! 8D
Day 7 was birthday day, wheeeee. It was a sunday, so the family enjoyed a lazy day.
You can see the eventual bakery behind Luke. That isn't where it will be - it's just where I built it, lol. I need to bin it so that I don't visit it by accident. 8|
I was going to have a birthday party, but... uhm. I always forget that it's a sim's birthday by the time they actually age up. 8| The pair of them both rolled Knowledge aspirations. Amelia earned 1 charisma, 5 body, 2 logic and 3 creativity. She's taken on a bit of a tomboy theme (and I'm using a maxis hair, loooool) but I think it suits - her OTH is Tinkering, and you don't have to be feminine to enjoy baking. I'm sure not, and I quite like making cake. Besides, Nebula could well end up producing most of the shop stock. It looks like Jupiter Omega will inherit his father's bar. Anyway. Luke earned 1 mechanical, 2 charisma, 3 body and 4 logic. I still don't know if he'll have the Boutique or the Grocery - Harlequin will have the other one, but I'm going to wait until she's older to figure out which.
Now, as you know, Sunday/Day 7 also equals Reno Day! :D Since the family was in need of a nursery/third bedroom, in addition to private sleeping space for the twins, I added a second storey to the top of the house.
I also added a door in the back wall of the house, for easier access to the playground outside. I was going to expand the kitchen but I don't really know what to do with it, so... it was left alone. It will come to me, I'm sure.
Amelia and Luke got their bedrooms up here, in addition to an extra kind of ... reading ... chilling out ... space ... thing. Amelia's room is blue and filled with plants, and luke's room is quite a bit smaller, with more vibrant colours. Amelia's room is bigger because I thought Harlequin would be moving in there when she was a teen, meaning there would have to be space for two beds. Then I remembered that she could use the nursery for that - and then I remembered that everything ould have changed by then anyway. I couldn't see a feasible way to equalise the rooms, so. That's how it is, for now.
All up the reno cost $14,000. The family has $70,000 left. They'll probably have to earn some more before buying Jackalope, nevermind the kids when they move out and buy their own businesses like that bakery. 8| I want that bakery. Nnrrrrrgh.
Anyway. That's all for next week. In the mean time, the
Stretch Family has week 5 ahead. :)
