When I was babysitting back in Ontario, the baby (probably about the same age as Z is now) got away from me when I was picking his sister up off the sidewalk - he was so fast that in seconds he was in the middle of a four lane road, in a big city, and I had to sprint to scoop him up from in front of a car. It was terrifying. I wanted to spend the rest of the day with a rope tired around him.

Yeah, no kidding. In one of the baby clothes boxes I got a child leash, and I've kept it just in case.

My opinion about those has changed over the years, from it being something ridiculous, to it being something that if my child is a determined runner, there are places I would never go without them being attached to me in one way or another.

Ditto. Especially now that I'm no longer physically able to run, it becomes more appealing.

Actually, I hope that horrible woman's child DOES get away from her without her knows - just like Z. And just like Z, I hope someone spots the child quickly and returns the child to her door with empathy and compassion. May she then realize how horrible she was to you... and possibly eat crow and apologize - even 5 years from now.

That'd be a nice fantasy. :-/ I hate thinking ill of people when I don't know their situation, and I'm really struggling with this one especially when my kids are freaked out. :-/

The apologizing part is probably fantasy. I'm one of those lucky ones that, as far as I can remember, has never had a kid run off out of the house. My bigger kids have gone into friends' homes without telling me, leaving me panicking that something horrible happened. But I just cannot imagine doing that to a mom - especially one who is obviously shocked to see you have her kid and so thankful that you do. I mean, I don't think I could even do that to a mom who answers the door hung over saying, "Heh... she got out again, huh?"

What a witch!

I know, right? The times I've done it every mother was thankful, embarrassed, relieved, terrified, or ashamed they hadn't yet realized. Every time I said, "It's okay, it happens to most moms" because it does. I just... cannot imagine telling someone I would rather see their family broken apart. I remember being an up-tight know-it-all first time mom and thinking that my neighbor was an awful mom for letting her seven or eight year old walk across this concrete retaining wall in the backward WHILE SHE WAS WATCHING. But even in my absolute arrogance I kept it to myself.
I'm flabberghasted, particularly since I've never seen this woman while she claims to have intervened (or seen? I'm not sure what she was suggesting) multiple times. I have no idea who she is or where she lives, just a direction she came from.

Baby carries would be awesome. :-D Good idea!

Sex toys. Pfft. I'd be happy to talk about that. I think at this point the only people left who read my blog and know who I am are aware that I talk about momsex.

Such a lovely photo. :)

I can't believe that apple is being such dicks about fixing your laptop. I mean, digging the trackpad out and putting your old, broken one back in. WTF?

I really wouldn't know what to do in that sort of situation with that awful woman. I imagine telling her to f*** off would just further antagonize her and you wouldn't want that around your kids. UGH. I am so glad that you believed your kids when you asked them what had happened. That is awesome. :)

What a judgmental woman! I don't understand people at all.

I think you'd be great to do vlogging (though I'm like you, I feel really awkward talking to a camera) and I'd be really interested in seeing the tutorial when it's finished.

Also, how's Marika doing? She must be due pretty soon?

She's due in early October. :) She's just entered her third trimester now.
