I think we're finally starting to come out of the other side of the tunnel of snot and assholery that The Winter Sick™ has gifted us this season. Curtis and I feel vaguely nauseated due to clogged sinuses, and baby continues to lose her body weight in snot every 16 hours, but other than that we're on the mend ( Read more... )

Oh man. I wish I'd seen the reading eggs codes before. We currently use reading eggs through the charter school we homeschool through but it would be nice to have our own accounts (vs student accounts) so I can see what they're working on. It's a great program, my boys love it!

Oh man, I hate to hear that about your house. I remember when you were moving before that I felt really sad about the fact that you were leaving the house where you gave birth in your tub.

I didn't realize that your mom's issues had progressed to the point of needing assisted living. I hope you find something totally awesome, or a magic way of staying where you are.

She's had home care twice a week for months now. She can move around, get up and down the stairs and prepare small meals but she has trouble bathing and cleaning, and it will continue to degrade as time goes on. Getting into asst. living now is a way to ensure it never gets so bad that her living conditions are severely affected.
She's also adamant that we never, ever end up taking care of her. She was a full time caretaker of her own mother (my grandma) and she said that the exhaustion, burn-out, guilt and resentment it fosters is something she never wants me or my brother to experience.

I would definitely talk to the school about this. Bullying of ANY sort is unacceptable and these children should be dealt with. If they say they can't do it - bullshit. My daughter's school sends those kids to the office with a call home EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Second - what's really sad is that these boys are hearings these slurs from someone - likely their own fathers - when are parents going to stop teaching their children to hate? That's where the bullying really starts!
Way to Go - Tempest! I hope this experience will help to encourage her to open up a little more in the future.

Bullying because of color? anonymous February 9 2012, 02:13:09 UTC
I don't know if your school does this, but on Feb 29th our school is wear pink day, against bullying.

Anyways, we have kids here too in our school that bullies because of beliefs and colors.

Poor Xan, he's had the worst time being a kid in school.

Crossing my fingers that you find a way to stay there!! GL!

BTW, we did get the ASD diagnosis today. Will write a LJ journal entry about it when I get a moment to breath.

Yes, they were very clear with their assessment and diagnosis. Once I get my shit together and fill out the next set of paperwork, we get $22000 a year for private services- until he turns 6. So I now have the daunting task of setting up our own service team... Just being in the QA Early Intervention program for these past 7 months has helped tremendously (speech therapy, OT, food school), so I'm optimistic that my little guy has some great potential to do well with lots of help. Still reeling with the quick diagnosis though.

OMG I can't believe how lucky you guys are! That's amazing!! I cannot stress to you enough how important and beneficial EI is. And the EI programs here are GREAT... it's the 6+ that aren't so hot. I was told later by a QA worker that one of the reasons T probably didn't get hers at the last minute was because of the shitty program options since she was already 5.5. Such a joke. Ugh.
Did you go through Dr. Price and Downs?
