Does anybody else get annoyed...

by the fact that the Dawn/Stacey storyline is so similar. I'm rereading ALL the books (and completing my collection), and I am just finishing up 28, Welcome Back Stacey. Anyway, I'm frustrated by how similar the whole thing is to Dawn's 23 predicament. I guess those books were easy to write....

books: discussion, books: regular series

I think they are pretty different. When we met Dawn, her parents had just divorced, which was a pretty common situation. Everyone at least knew someone who's parents were divorcing, and there were new kids. But it was still rare enough that we needed to have books and afterschool specials to raise awareness. Where as Stacey's parents divorced after we met her, which would have been useful to the kids who's parents were getting divorced.

I think it depends on where in the series you are. In the earlier books Stacey's parents were still together and her storyline was more about her diabetes. After her parents split there are a lot of books that deal with her being caught in the middle.

like all of 28 was really rushed. Everything (Stacy moving home, joining the club again, etc) happened SO fast. I think it was kind of like...oh god, Stacey was really popular, we need to get her back..and quick.

Yeah, there are a lot of storylines that are repeated.
Perhaps the author didn't think that people would pay attention so hard-core to the events? or did not think people would read every last book? lol
But, having over 200 books in a series, means that ideas will clash, i mean, yeah, how can you make all 200 be 100% original? hehe

Yeah, I was annoyed a bit by that too, if only because it gave Stacey one more thing to whine about (say it with me - it's soooo hard being Stacey!) Dawn would mention her parents' divorce, but I never felt like she dwelled on it the way Stacey did. Dawn went back and forth with her loyalties and where she wanted to live, but that's understandable at 13. Overall though I thought Dawn dealt with the divorce much better than Stacey did.

But then, I never liked Stacey that much. I could never figure out why she was the most popular character. I've always been a Dawn fan (followed closely by Claudia and Abby.)
