I think it's neat too, I like that Karen's rat-napping in BSC Super Special #7 is fleshed out in LS Super Special #3 (but no mention of getting snowed in, iirc) and a few chapters of LS Super Special #4 take place at Shadow Lake at the same time as BSC Super Special #8 (the secret garden and the lodge dance.)
Chronologically, Karen's Two Families falls between books 74 and 75. Karen's Stepmother, the first book in which the new arrangement takes effect, falls between 75 and 76.
The first time anyone explicitly mentions it in the regular series is Jessi in #75, when she says "Watson Brewer, Kristy's stepfather, has two kids from a prior marriage (Karen and Andrew), who live there every other month."
