In one of the early books (#6?)I think it is hinted that Karen goes to private school because Watson is a real live millionaire. Usually private school students come from a larger geographical area than public school kids, but in some of the little sister books it appears that half of Karen's class lives in the little house neighbourhood, which is kind of strange because Lisa and Seth are poorer than Watson, and live in a poorer area, so their neighbours probably aren't millionaires. Karen never seems to mention non SA kids in the little house neighbourhood.

So perhaps SA is either outside Stoneybrook, as is the little house, or it is an alternative school (as opposed to SD which has a more intellectual/scholastic approach). Or perhaps Karen, for all the fuss made about her being so clever she had to skip a grade, just wasn't clever enough to get into SD.

That's what I was thinking too.

1) Re: The Little House

The big house and the little house are both in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. (LS Super Special #1 - Karen's Wish)

2) Re: Stoneybrook Academy

I belong to class 2A at Stoneybrook Academy in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. (KIMCC #4 - Second Grade Baby)

3) Re: Kelsey Middle School

Neither Stoneybrook Day School nor Kelsey Middle School (which is in our district) was large enough to have an orchestra for Anna to play in. (#89 - Kristy and the Dirty Diapers)

Damn, so that kills my Kelsey Middle School theory... I'm still sticking to my guns that SA and the little house are on the fringes, if not the edges.

I grew up near a lot of private schools, and went to one myself. Even though it was a relatively small area (small affluent corner of largeish city) there were a lot of private schools. The variety was because they were different philosophy/outlook-wise. There was a Quaker school, a more liberal girls' school, a more conservative girls' school, a liberal boys' school, conservative boys' school, etc. SA seems more liberal to me, while SDS could have had a more conservative bent.

The private schools I'd be looking for outside the 'Brook are the more alternative-sounding ones, that, say, the Cheplins(?) ) went to.

And Claudia's alternative school from Claudia's Book was in Stamford.

It's pretty clear in most of the LS books that the little house IS in Stoneybrook. I always thought of it as opposite from your theory, actually, in that the big house might be on the fringes of Stoneybrook (hence Kelsey Middle School being in their zone) with the little house moreso in Stoneybrook proper.

Nancy Dawes also lives next-door to Karen in the LS books and also goes to Stoneybrook Academy, as well as Bobby Gianelli who moves across the street from Karen's little house.

A bit late to reply, but: couldn't she be in Stoneybrook Academy simply because it is central to both houses?
