Last night, on a whim, I decided to reread Dawn, CD #1. It's been awhile since I've reread the CD series in entirety (and after this last read, I've been inspired to do so again, welp!) I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it, to be honest. It still seemed relatively fresh and relevant, despite being written way-back-when in 1997

I also thought that maybe Carol didn't want the baby, or she was nervous that Jack wouldn't.

I thought Dawn said that Carol was 32 in California Girls!.
Anyway, I just assumed that the baby was unplanned and Carol panicked, which doesn't seem all that unusual - it's probably one of the biggest things that's happened to her. If it was a complete accident (ie. she and Jack had never discussed having any children and were using contraception), then the fact that Jack was away would at least give her some time to think about whether she was okay with the news.
Even if that wasn't the case: I've never been in her situation, but I would have thought that it's really the kind of news you'd want to tell someone in person. I think she told Dawn to keep it a secret simply because she didn't want everyone else knowing before Jack did - it was his baby, after all.

But yeah, IDK what Dawn thinks a pregnant women should do, but if that's the case most pregnant women I knew/know, myself included, arent typical. I did almost everything I did non-pregnant up until about my 9th month when I was too huge to really move, lol.
Same so far for this pregnancy too. ;)

I agree that asking Dawn to keep it "their little secret" was too big of a burden to bestow upon a 13 year old, but Carol was probably still in "shock" mode and wanted the only person to know to be Jack. And it's not like he was going to be gone forever, so it's not like Dawn had to keep it a secret for months. So like the person above said, I think it was just unplanned and she panicked it being her first baby ( ... )
