There actually is a learning disability called "spelling disorder"... I've always thought Claudia just had an unspecified learning disability + ADHD.

I love fics where things go right for Claudia and she gets to use not just her artistic skills but her "willingness to take chances". I liked Mal's input into this one. And Morbidda Destiny is a nice touch. :)

This is also a pretty plausible solution to Claud's lack of diagnosis in-series.
