[OTA] I've been around for a long, long year

Della, as per usual these days, is curled in the corner of the library - browsing through a book of Grimm’s fairy tales with some concentration. She used to love reading those to herself as a kid, and, although vampirism kind of took away that joy, she’s decided to return to them now. She’s in a strange, creepy, generally odd wood after all - ( Read more... )

Spike doesn't particularly care for libraries, but he does want to get a general idea of the layout of the area. He walks inside and looks around, wondering if any of these books hold the secret to getting out of here.

He almost doesn't notice the girl in the corner. But he does see her eventually and goes up to her as she throws the book she's been reading away from her.

"Well, I'm guessing you wouldn't recommend that one," he says, smirking slightly.

Della, not expecting any interruption, jumps at his voice - not quite out of her skin (she's not sure if that's even possible) but definitely high enough to be visible. Which, of course, causes an even more visible blush.

Damn, she hates acting like an idiot in public.

"No," she mutters, managing to multitask and glare at the book while blushing - both seem pretty important tasks, "it doesn't have the endings - and the endings are the best part, it's useless without them."

Yeah, Della's always been the kind of girl who likes happily ever after - she tries not to make it too obvious.

Spike walks over and sits on the table, looking at her curiously. "Make something up." He picks the book up. "These are classic fairy tales. The girl gets married and the villain gets her feet chopped off, or whatever gruesome punishment seems appropriate. That's how fairy tales work." He drops it back on the table.

She giggles at the feet bit, which probably says a awful lot of not-so-nice things about her, but soon calms back to a frown - but that's to be expected really; she likes the happy ending - or, for that matter, the ending where everybody gets their feet cut off.

"I know, but it doesn't seem right that they aren't written down," Della murmurs, giving the book a faintly embarrassed glance, "I mean, what if we forget them?"

Meredith wasn't looking for Della, but she is looking for someone, and the library, as a nice, central building, seems like a logical place to poke her head into, at least.

She steps in as the book thumps against the table, and just stands there near the door for a moment, trying not to laugh. "Did the book... offend you somehow, or was it just boring?"

Della glances up immediately at the voice and downright groans, looking very close to just putting her head in her hands and leaving it there - it seems to work for the ostriches. But then ostriches are awesome and Della, in her humble opinion, is far from awesome.

"It... It has none of the endings," she mutters, placing a faintly defensive hand on the book and trying very, very hard to fight a blush, "it's a little disappointing."

Or, y'know, enough to make her behave slightly like a toddler - neither are good.

"Oh." Meredith frowns slightly, and moves a little further into the room. She wonders if she should ask why the book doesn't have any endings, but... okay, looking at the state of this place, the books thrown everywhere and scattered, torn pages on the floor, she can pretty much guess.

"Well, in that case, I'd probably throw it too if I were you. Not that I'm really a happy ending kind of person... pretty much ever... but I'd still be annoyed."

Della has been trying not to notice the state of this place, really - she likes her delusions. They stop creepy guys from being creepy, sinister housematrons from being so sinister and libraries from being desecrated. Really, it's a fun world where she can imagine singing flowers at every turn!

...Or something like singing flowers, she's not so certain on that part.

"Oh, that's good," she nods sincerely, and then blushes slightly - fighting the urge to look at her hands "...Well, not good - but at least I'm not the only one. The world just doesn't seem right without the endings."

She's very keen on endings.
