The walk out to the Dark Woods is uneventful, if perhaps a little unsettling. What starts out as a bright, breezy spring day becomes less and less cheerful the farther the group gets from the barracks

GROUP FOUR (Fletcher, Takato, Motoko)fullbodycyborgApril 16 2011, 20:22:32 UTC
Motoko had still to make up her mind about this place and her situation, but sitting on her ass did not fit her personality -regardless how strategic a defensive and 'safe' plan might sound to some. Signing up to resque people provided insight to both the other people here and the dangers. Presuming it was all real, of course. Although she had decided to act as if it was real, Major Motoko Kusanagi is far from convinced. Then again, without proof or any ability to fight it off by the regular means... all there was to do was to follow the flow and keep a look out for patterns; hints, and opportunities.
Walking deeper into the woods in silence, she's silently watching the other two members of her group. She's unsure what to make of them yet but time will tell. A quick glance at the 'GPS' and she pockets her journal and keeps her eyes trained on the forest.
"Previous combat experience?" She breaks the silence with a straight out and to the point question.

Takato walks quietly next to Guilmon. This wasn't the Digital World, but it was just as dangerous. And in cases like this, he knew that Guilmon's senses were much better than his own. If something got close, he trusted his partner to smell it.
He glances up in surprise. "Well, I don't know if you would call it combat experience, but we've had to fight a lot of times. We fought the Wild Ones and the Devas. And we were fighting the D-reaper just before we were brought here."

Motoko eyed the strange kid and his pet. "I'm afraid those names mean nothing to me, but the size of your-" a slight pause, "-partner, back at the junk yard I am assuming he can defend himself."
A child on a rescue mission in this place? It was a good thing she'd left human emotions behind her, mostly; and that none of this was likely to be real, probably. Right.

Takato just keeps smiling cheerfully as he walks. Being doubted by adults was nothing new. They always worried, but that was just the way it was. It had never bothered him.
"Don't worry about us. The D-Reaper was much scarier than anything we have seen here. And we have to, we can evolve to Dukemon."

"What is your friend, exactly?" Perhaps it's rude to ask so bluntly, but rather than arguing about danger with a child that is either as experienced as he says -or naive and about to learn harsh lessons, she prefers usable information.

"Guilmon is a digimon," the dragon announces in a childish voice. "Takato drew me, and then I became real. Nah, Takato! Are you sure you can't give me longer legs? Or a bigger stomach? If I had a bigger stomach I could eat lots more bread."
Takato laughs. "Sorry, boy. I don't think it works that way."

Motoko spares the strange animal a glance, her interest awoken. "What is a digimon? I have not heard of anything like it, unless you mean a type of artificial intelligence."
Re: GROUP FOUR (Fletcher, Takato, Motoko)gallantgogglesApril 16 2011, 21:20:01 UTC
"Digimon is short for digital monster," Takato explains. "They were created in an artificial intelligence project a long time ago. Well, at least that's what Mr. Shibumi says. I don't know very much about it."

At that, the purple-haired woman turns and looks directly at Takato and Guilmon. "Oh? I'd like to hear more about that sometime." Yes, definitely interesting. "Takato, was it... -I take it you're from Japan too. What year?"
She picks up her journal again and eyes the red, fuzzy, dot that marks the supposed location of their target: a Mr Flynn Ryder. Ryder, what kind of name was that? Sounded like one of those bad American romance novels she'd seen a friend read..
"Ah, a modest man. I might like that." Motoko smirks at Fletcher and continues walking. "Me? Just a regular soldier. Major, field commander of a special-operations police task-force division of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission." By the sound of her voice, the 'regular' in that statement was most likely barely hidden false modesty.
"Mr Hadley, I believe someone called you at the barracks -would you mind taking point? Takato, you stay between us and you and your friend keep a look out to the sides. I'll bring up the rear."
"So I heard," Fletch says, nodding at Takato. "That's a pretty neat li'l creature you've got there."
He then nods at Motoko, stepping in front of the other two and unfurling his wings in the process. If he's going to be in the lead, he wants his senses to be their sharpest.
"Y'can just call me Fletcher. Let's head this way."
Motoko just gives Fletcher's back a good stare as he takes the lead. Wings. ...Why of course. She closes her eyes for a moment and shakes her head to herself. Whatever her situation really is--brain-hack, virus, simulation or; hell, even reality--it's sure isn't pulling any stops with the crazy.
"That's great, Takato. All right, Fletcher.. let's try and pick up the pace a bit too shall we. I am new here but I don't doubts the hostile inhabitants here can find us regardless of how quiet we are, and time is of the essence yes?"

Takato blinks at the question and glances over at his partner. "Yeah, my name is Takato. I'm from West Shinjuku. And I guess the year was 2002."
Reply
"Motoko Kusanagi, also Japan. The year 2031."

Fletcher's been examining one of his knives for the past few minutes of the walk, absently testing its sharpness against the heel of his hand.
"Ask me," he continues, "And I'll say no. Ask pretty much anyone else, and the answer'll be yes."
He peers at Motoko, then at the boy, then at the dragon-thing, then back to Motoko. "You?"

"Sure, we can do that. And Guilmon has a really good sense of smell. So if anything gets too close he should be able to sense it."
