Alexis had completely given up on her slippers. They were just not going to work, at this point, while she was still barreling through woods as fast as she could manage, working largely off adrenaline. Given how scratched her feet were, at this point, she reflected that the only reason they didn't hurt more probably was adrenaline. She was okay ( Read more... )

Spencer had been walking around the walls of the barracks when he noticed the girl. A redhead, mid to late teens. He had never seen her before, and judging by the state of her, she had just spent a very long time trekking through the woods.

"H-Hey... do you need some help?"

Alexis looked at Spencer, expression clearly showing that desperate sort of relief that someone can only manage when they're extremely close to breaking down. Again, in her case.

"I-- um, I-- I'm lost and the people I was with are-- there was a monster and--" Alexis hesitated for a moment. She closed her mouth and brushed a bit of hair out of her face, taking a breath to steady herself. "Yes."

Spencer nodded. He knew about the monsters out there and he was used to performing triage with crime victims. Right now it just looked like she needed a place to sit down.

"Do you want to just.. sit down for a moment and catch your breath?"

"It's-- it's safe?" she asked. She desperately wanted to think that yes, it was safe, she was fine, there weren't going to be anymore monsters, but-- well, she'd settle for there not being any monsters in her imminent future. If they appeared later when she was hiding, then that might be okay, maybe. "Because-- that would be nice."

"Whoa, kiddo."

Fletcher, whose fondness for Being Up High has led him to perch upon the wall, blinks down at the girl approaching the barracks.

"You're not lookin' too well."

Alexis jumped slightly, the concept of "always look up" not yet drilled into her head. Well-- not unless she was playing paintball or laser tag with her dad, but that was a different story entirely (and one better not currently thought of-- she desperately missed her dad. He would have made things better, somehow).

"There was a monster," she let out, hardly taking a breath before continuing. "And there was a man with a sword but we were separated and I ran and I'm not sure where we are or how to get home and I don't want there to be more monsters!" ...She was still a little hysterical. Better, but hysterical.

"I think you'll find there are lots of monsters in them thar woods," Fletch says, leaning over just enough to get a better look at her. "Stay right there, lass. Down in a flash."

He disappears from view and reappears at the wall's gate a few moments later, after hopping down the stairs to meet Alexis. "Here, c'mon. Get inside."

Kate was lost in thought, and observing the woods closely, so closely that she almost missed Alexis at first. She stopped short, her mouth hanging open.

"Alexis?"
