So. Fishing. It couldn't be that hard, Naoto told herself, and she'd still put a lot of thought into the matter. Having never seen a live fish, this was a less simple task than it might seem, but she'd come to a few conclusions during the hours she should have spent sleeping ( Read more... )

Heine cracked opened his cabin door after a moment having been lying on his bed when Naoto knocked. It was only the slightest crack barely letting in any sunlight as he peered through it, eyes giving a look of confusion and irritation. He didn’t understand why she would come all this way to ask him that and he really didn’t care, he wanted to stay inside till the sun wasn’t so damn high and maybe catch some sleep.

“I don’t know anything about fish and why are you asking?” His voice was lowered and slightly muted by the door. It didn’t sound terribly angry, just frustrated more or less by recent events accumulating on him. Heine didn’t have time for trivial questions even it time was all he had around there.

“Damn it, it’s too bright…get inside.” He mumbled letting his door open more as he crept behind it to avoid the incoming light. Underground he didn’t have that problem of real sunlight, not unless he went above. Here it was everywhere, hurting his eyes and stinging his skin if he stayed out too long.

"Because I have to catch five of them before the end of the day," she said as she slipped through the narrow opening. Was sunlight really that bad for him? She felt a milt twinge of guilt, but then...necessities were necessities. "It was one of the bargains I made for information. I'm thinking it's best to stab them with sharpened sticks. You in?"

Naoto didn't really expect a 'yes,' especially not after his reaction to the opened door, but she wasn't sure she could catch enough herself and she didn't know who else to ask. "I want to take care of it before it gets too dark," she added, which probably didn't help her case but at least added some logic. "I have no idea what kind of monster would live in a river, but it's probably nothing pretty."

“Do I have a choice?” He said from behind the door, closing it gradually while it creaked. Turning slowly he looked at Naoto sorting the recent information given to him. She had exchanged food for info, rather the promise of food for info. He didn’t like the idea, wasn’t his style of doing things; but making enemies out there wasn’t something they needed to do.

“Aren’t there things for fishing…like nets or something…why can’t you see if anyone had one?” A hand went to his back rubbing at the base of his neck. It hurt today and due to the lack of bandages eventually he was going to have to leave it bare, but for then he was using what he had; the discoloration apparent.

"Even if I was going to go door to door, why would anyone have a fishing net?" Naoto raised her eyebrows and might have even chuckled at the question, if it hadn't drawn attention to how little they actually had. "It can't be that hard. Fish just sit around in rivers, right? If we catch extra, there's dinner."

Naoto was not exactly in her force-to-be-reckoned-with mode, but she clearly expected Heine to go along with her plan. After all, she'd spent a half-hour talking to a cat. She deserved a little help here.
