She'd already damned enough people tonight.  Max wasn't going to add her genetic cousins or whatever to the pile.  But superspeed didn't seem anywhere near fast enough as she pushed her muscles to their limits, breaking through the woods in the direction of the facility.

Because no matter how fast she ran, no matter if she got in there, let them ( Read more... )

Not the bat boys after all.

Much, much more annoying.

Max tried to pay no heed to the tightening in her stomach that descended from the realization that somehow Alec had gotten here, which meant something had happened to Logan, who was supposed to be guarding him. Mild panic threatened to descend as she wondered just how fast acting that virus was. Maybe this had been a wrong turn, after all.

She struck up a fighting stance immediately, making it markedly clear that she was ready to beat his ass down all over again if he was hell bent on stopping her.

"Just for the record: coming back for seconds? Not at the top of your good choices for today," she quipped, fixing him with an angry glare. She wanted to demand to know what happened, if Logan was alright, but she sure as hell wasn't about to give him the satisfaction. If she had to see that smugass smirk one more time today...

Alec's hands came up quickly when he saw that stance, taking a step back. "Max. Calm down."

He paused for a moment, trying to figure out which way to do this. There were several times that Max meant and often achieved kicking his ass. He just needed to figure out which fight that was.

"This is going to sound like a bit of a crazy question, but which fight am I coming back for seconds on?"

"Did I hit you so hard that it dislodged your brain?" she asked, not lowering her defenses for a second, but fixing him with a look that suggested maybe he was high on something more than life.

She hesitated a moment on whether to even dignify that with a response or not, but finally decided it couldn't hurt. If his answer was equally stupid, she'd just end this conversation before he could stall her anymore, if that was his game.

"The one at Logan's apartment," she said, somewhat testily. "Where you showed up to narrate."
