i watched shopgirl at the video vault today, and i really liked it. i have no clue why, but something about it made me feel really good. i recommend it.
Yup, it was excellent. It was very... real. It was fun to guess throughout how she was gonna end up with Jeremy because you knew it was inevitable. But Ray was so sweet and caring!
So yeah, I agree, liked it very much. Not sure why, though, and yet I felt all warm and fuzzy by the end.
so normally you have romantic comedies where the two people end up together at the end whether you want them to or not. on the other hand you have sad movies where they love each other but part ways because of circumstance or their inability to tolerate one another (again, whether or not you want them to). both those options are pretty common nowadays, and predictable. this one was different from everyone's perspective... she ended up with the guy i initially didn't even want her to call back, and the sweet rich guy ended up getting his punishment. it was so different, but still happy... i think that's what it was.
(and at the end, they were cuddling the right way)
Yeah, that makes sense! The first guy was so bad - doing all the wrong things, and he just makes you cringe. You kind of want her to be with him because you know she needs someone, but then he's so repulsive that you think maybe she should just deal with her loneliness and not bother.
Then along comes the second guy. Perfect, caring, charming, understanding, romantic, everything that you want in a guy. There's the speculation as to what could be wrong with him, and yet he passes all the tests. He makes her so tremendously happy, that you root for her to stay with him.
And then in the end, the relationship crumbles around her. You feel horribly sorry for the second guy despite his one flaw, and yet it just seems right for her to be with the first guy. It's as if the two of them had to go through this miraculous transformation only to discover in the end that they're the ones that belong together.
(Oh! Yes! They were cuddling the right way! Yumminess.)
So yeah...the book is really phenomenal. A much recommended read. And I'm guessing next time I need a romantic-type movie I know which one to get, right? Now, who else needs to comment here for it to get just a little too crowded?
