What it really is are harsh words and finger-shaped bruises; what it really is are hard fists and sore throats from all the yelling; what it really is are tears and sobs that wreck their bodies.
What they want it to be are soft caresses and reddish love bites; what they want it to be are tickle fights and sore cheeks from too much smiling; what they want it to be are laughing tears and warm hugs.
But it’s not. It’s not, because at the end of the day Yongguk is always half gone when he comes home. It’s not, because no matter how much Junhong tries he can’t not irritate Yongguk. It’s not, because Yongguk grabs his wrists hard enough to bruise and yells at him, yells at him to shut the fuck up and Junhong cries and apologizes and cries harder when a palm connects with his cheek.
They have good days, they do. There are weekends when Yongguk can stay home and then everything is fine. They have tickle fights because even if Junhong is already twenty he’s still a child on the inside. They have romantic evenings when they make gentle love and Junhong leaves love bites all over Yongguk’s collar bones. They invite their friends over and crack jokes that aren’t even that good, but jokes are such rarities in their life that they laugh until they cry.
Their friends keeping telling them it needs to stop, they can’t go on like this. Junhong notices Daehyun seems especially fierce in his arguments; when he asks, Himchan says Daehyun is in love with him. Junhong understands what Daehyun must feel like, he does. It must be painful to see the one you love in so much pain, but there’s no way he can stop. He’s in too deep, was already before it began.
It is what it is. Junhong cries, Yongguk yells, Yongguk apologizes, Junhong yells. It’s not what they want it to be, but they can’t change what it is.
