Not just "old amercia" but still very much a part of the culture here. You can't throw a rock in most cities (and small towns) without hitting a Waffle House, Denny's, International House of Pancakes, Cracker Barrel or a local diner that specializes in breakfast food, usually served 24 hours a day. We lovesss our bacon and sausage and pancakes and eggs and OJ and coffee, precioussssssss! :) Of course, I can't indulge very often because a meal like that on a regular basis would clog my arteries completely, alas. It's evil like the One Ring, but oh so hard to resist...

(the Grand Canyon - I cried when I first saw it in real!)

I remember the first time I saw it (I was about 10? 11?). It so moved me that I couldn't speak, and I remember getting *really* irritated with a bunch of chattering Japanese tourists. I wanted to shout at them to shut up and respect the silence! I mean to go back to see it one of these days.

I tried to read The Silmarillion but found it too difficult and it never captured me like Lord of the Rings. It's taken ( ... )

I first went to a Dennys last year and it was great. I had a lot of prejudices against them and I don't even remember why. So it was very cheap, everything was fine. We went there because we stayed in a little town and the Dennys was practically next door, so we didn't had to drive. IHOP we encountered on our first trip (in LA) and it too was fantastic. We try to visit the local diners to give them some support.

The other tourists (the loud ones) at Grand Canyon made me very angry too. Usually the Americans try to avoid barging into people and after two weeks of enyoing that I was barged into twice at the visitor shop - by Asian visitors. For me it felt like misbehaving in a sacred place.

Very nice!

I don't know anyone who actually READ the entire Silmarillion as a novel... I found it spectacularly dull.

And I fell in love with Han Solo, too...

And I LOVE breakfast...

Thanks (blushing)! I'm really feeling hot all over and it has nothing to do with the temperature, which is still fairly high in our living room. I was so afraid about the comments, really silly.
