I'm that annoying special snowflake who thinks poll responses don't apply to her. I'm a hard liquor drinker not a fan of beer, wine or champagne so I said tea. I probably should have said wine. I'll mix punch with wine at weddings to create a sangria type of beverage. I'd always go with wine above all else. It seems more universal for men and women. Champagne often doesn't get drank. We had tons leftover from my wedding and it was the good quality stuff so not like no one wanted it because it was the $3 a bottle kind (really helps when you come from a lush Irish family with many working for wineries for your alcohol
( ... )
I was hoping you would answer because you know a lot about weddings it seems. I am a newbie to this. I did the courthouse thing. It seems to be blowing out of proportion so I wasnt quite sure about some of this stuff. The groom and his family are little help. Other than financially I mean. Thanks for your input. Im sharing with my daughter Kristy. I want it to be a magical day but I also want some sanity because I hope I live awhile longer. LOL
The first question was hard for me. I assume you are asking what you should offer with the meal. I would say tea, water, and pop. If there is an option for a pay bar, then I don't think you should have to hold that cost. If people wish to drink, they will drink on their own dime. Now I do think that it is nice to offer a small glass of champaign for the wedding toast. Just 1/2 glass for the guests.
I am a RSVP freak. I tend to send it out as soon as I get it so I don't forget. Very few things annoy me as much as people who do not RSVP. I have heard that email addresses are the new way to ensure people RSVP to things. I guess it allows people to avoid actually making a phone call and talking to someone...especially when declining. So you could offer that option even if you have those cute RSVP cards included in the invitation.
I can't fill out the poll because I can't answer the way I want to. Lol! This is only my opinion, but I think people spend WAY too much money on this day. The marriage is what's important, not the wedding. Some would disagree.
My answers:
Offer beer, wine and soda/tea. But remember, it doesn't have to be open bar all the way. You can cut it off at a certain time and make it a cash bar.
I think a buffet works nicely for the reception. You can bring out finger foods at the beginning and then serve the meal a little later. Most people will eat the hell out of the finger foods and start drinking so you can spend less money on the food for the meal.
The rehearsal dinner thing is totally up to you. When I got married the first time we were totally casual and had a BBQ, but that was a personal choice.
You should definitely RSVP. How can someone plan their food without one?
Ask about pricing finger food vs. dinner - for our class reunion we are going with dinner, as it is CHEAPER - they wanted $68 a person for appetizers/buffet at the Renaissance, so we rented a banquet center that normally does weddings - $2500 for 5 hrs open bar and a sit down dinner. What's going to make the ticket price not go down is the $1500 we owe the R for canceling our first date because the first committee couldn't get it together.
