Will this week be better?

Last week was bizarre... it was a short work week for me (since I took Monday off getting back to Austin). But... what the hell? There was the mass shootings at Fort Hood, that had me uttering WTF? It's really weird shit. And poor Killeen, TX (Fort Hood is near there, I always thought it WAS there, but the news kept referring to Fort Hood, as Fort ( Read more... )

I used to hang out in Killeen at lot during college, as it had better clubs/bars than Waco and plus, lots of cute soldiers looking to have a fun night out. >^.^< It was rather sobering to hear the news, and considering that a lot of people were still trying to get over the Luby's Massacre when I was down there, I can imagine how long it'll take to get over this latest tragedy.

I'm also sure my sister-in-law will mention Ft. Hood to my brother every day until he signs his release forms from the Army reserve.

I have always embraced gift cards for presents. You get to pick the general amount, don't get stuck paying for a whole present and they can figure out what the heck to do with it.

I've only driven by Killeen and Ft Hoods dozens of times. This was just too damn bizarre. I hear that the suspect is awake now. I bet he wishes he wasn't though.

Ooh, I've been looking rather longingly at the PRS-600 Touch. I'd be very interested to know what you think. I can't choose between that, a Kindle and the old Sony reader.

I'll post a review later. :) But I really do like the thing. :)

Hee! I created a monster?

Do you like the new Sony better than your old one and does the software work better than your sister's did? I'm still craving the 505. But Barnes and Noble has a shiny new one too.

I was thinking about you last week when I learned that Fort Hood was near Austin.

Actually except for a few extra features I find the 500 and 600 not all that different. :) I jump through fewer hoops with the 600 than the 500. I don't know that I will need to use calibre as much, not that I plan to uninstall it though.

No, with the install of Windows 7 on every machine in the house and the fact that sony updated their ebook library software to 3.01 it all works (even my sister's pocket reader now works with the new software), and it had the 600 firmware already installed. My poor 500 does take a licking and keeps on ticking... I have a dent in the screen. I think I tossed a tv remote on it, it didn't break the glass but sometimes when there is a word where the nick is it takes some doing to discern the word. :)

I didn't realize the Luby's was so close by. That was one of the first mass murders/massacres I remember. Now it seems they happen on a weekly basis.
