What a lovely xmas. Nothing too crazy or sociable but good food and catching up with dad were the high points of the day. Xmas presents were on the whole pretty good, some randoms (hello cutlery set?) but all in all just lovely. On the food front my ham once again turned out gorgeous. Boiled until cooked then glazed in the oven using my time

No, you are definitely not being cranky and oversensitive. They sound like they were rude from start to finish, with the lack of tipping and arguing for a can of your dad's beer and actually saying, "We don't have to bring anything" instead of "Is there anything you'd like me to bring?" Rude rude rude, and rather low class.

Wow. That's ridiculous!! Who behaves that way?? I mean, it's not like they're 16 trying to get alcohol because they can't buy it themselves!! They're called grown-up drinks for a reason-- they need to be grown-ups and go and buy their own booze!! Mooches.

I don't think you're just being a cranky bitch. I've been super poor before and I handled poverty socializing with a fuckton more grace than that. These people are not only rude and wrong, but they have an undeserved sense of entitlement. Nuh-uh.

Exactly. And any time I've ever been too broke, I've never asked for anything. People would offer, but I don't really drink anyway. The point is that if you're not a rude mooch, people don't MIND offering. And in my book, if you angle for something rather than just asking outright? You're not getting a damn thing.

OH! And the tip thing.... That drives me NUTS! I probably would have said, "Oh, well you paid, so I thought it would be fair for me to pay the tip..." I always pay the tip whenever someone does the paying. I DO think that's fair.
