I have never watched Avatar (even though I was urged to), but I still find the whole episode both mind-boggling and disgusting. It's one of those delightful moments that just kind of slaps me in the face with how full of bullshit my tidy little eurocentric world is.

And if *I* feel like that about it, I can't really imagine how it must make a person of color feel.

You shouldn't let this bullshit put you off the show, which is indeed excellent and has nary a 'white' character in sight.

I had someone thank me on the letter-writing thread, saying as a PoC cultural representation (or rather the lack therof) was a real challenge.
