So, a friend of mine is just starting out in fanfiction and asked me for links to a few of my favorite pieces that I've written, ones that should give him a good feel for my general mindset. I may link that one; it does get my thoughts on Finduilas pretty well, but now I feel compelled to go back and at least pretty up the next chapter for publishing...

For some reason the word "mindset" sort of confused me. Are you trying to show your friend your overall mindset through fanfiction, or are you trying to show him fics that will demonstrate how your personal mindset contrasts with those of other fanfic writers, or do you just mean you're looking for fics that exemplify your personal style? Like, what is your friend looking to get from your stories? Is he just looking for some good stories, or looking for examples to learn from as a prospective writer, or just curious, as a friend, as to what kind of stories you, personally, like to write?

Well, anyway, those questions are probably all rather irrelevant because in any case I'd second the recommendation of "As Golden Leaves Upon the Sea," and also "Weakness," which I really liked. (Of course, it'll help if your friend has a fairly extensive understanding of the whole House of Hurin business already. ;)

Any fic or two you've written that really just sums up your style and ( ... )

He's trying to see just what it is that makes fanfic so interesting to me, if that explains it any better. I don't think he's very familiar with the history of the Hurins, although he knows the basics of LotR.

I don't know the Dorian Gray fandom well enough to comment on the fandom details, but "Evening with Narcissus" was easy enough to follow along with, and the painter's thoughts on Dorian really set the mood for me.
