Very nicely done! I especially love these bits:
"...it was bruised as an assassin in the Vimes’ yard," wonderfully descriptive!
and:

The addition of the footnotes were both very funny and in keeping with the style of the books!

This is a strong beginning for a much longer story... I hope you will have the time and inspiration to finish it as I would love to see the completed work. (unfortunately I don't have any suggestions for canon female characters since it's also been a very long time since I've read any of the Valdemar series.)
Notes Out of Time:For some reason... probably lack of time... I never really got into Firefly (though my hubby was a fan) but this is so well written that it's easy to follow even without previous knowledge. I love the interaction between Inara and River even without really knowing who they are in ( ... )
