WageWorks T Passes

Oct 25, 2007 11:33

Hey folks,

Does anyone handle their monthly T passes through an employer using WageWorks at all? I recently started at a company offering WageWorks but am uncertain if it's worth the effort?

Thanks!

If WageWorks is a pretax way to pay for your T pass, take it. I've only ever gotten my T pass through work, and it's so much less hassle (especially now with the Charlie Cards). I don't have to think about when it's the end of the month; my pass is automatically put on my card, and it's not another expense that I have to remember to budget...

It's really not much of a hassle, and it saves you money. I love it.

Hmm, well the other issue is that they offer the 12-ride commuter train passes but seemingly not the 10-ride boat passes that I'm used to using - only the full monthly boat passes which sort of sucks... hmmm, still undecided

If WageWorks is a pre-tax benefit that your work offers, you should definitely use it. It wouldn't make sense not to. If you are spending $50 a month on a t-pass, you are not getting taxed on $600 a year. If you are spending $200 a month on a commuter rail pass, you could avoid getting taxed on $2,400. Definitely significant.

Besides that, it is so convenient to not have to buy a pass each month. A new pass is automatically loaded onto your charlie card each month and you don't have to do a thing.

My wageworks deal only adds money to a debit mastercard that I can only use on the MBTA CharlieCard machines. I still have to go through the hassle, but I agree - definitely worth it.

No kidding. When I switched jobs at the end of September, I was in a minor panic about having to buy a new T pass for october. Happily, because the MBTA is as bureaucratic as we think it is, they didn't get the "cancel pass" order from my old employer in time (they only sent it in when I gave my notice), so I got one more month out of them, and a new card courtesy of the state for November.

(You are so right- working for the state frickin' rocks)
