Patrick studio-topping (or, in the common parlance, producing) a very laconic and "whateeeeeeevs, PSteezy" GCH is the best thing ever. He's totally the most stressed-out person in the whole thing. Plus, um. The drum noises. I has a secret weakness for the drum noises. And lookit him, playing a properly adjusted keyboard! Ee ( Read more... )

Personally, for me, it's more 'n'aww, can you imagine this dude buying dresses? And having to deal with his daughter dating guys like him when she's older? It would be amazing!'

That said, I wrote kidfic-ish fic for big bang (not mpreg, but still), and I gave Jon a little baby boy, but it was a tough decision.

That's a sensical explanation too, and probably better explains my desire to give Joe three baby girls under four years old (the hilarity!), and have Pete sorta-kinda co-parent two pre-teen girls (they are not his, though).

It's weird, 'cause the off-screen non-canon children in my Big Bang (Frank and MikeyWay) are boys. But they're barely mentioned. I dunno!

I was like, "Wait! There is one!" but then I remembered that that was actually a gender switch (Pete/Mikey?). Maybe the girl baby thing has something to do with the woman authors feeling more comfortable with girls. Adorable baby girl might be more a satisfying fantasy than a boy?

But I now think that I have read a Panic at the Disco mpreg with a boy baby.

Genderswitch totally counts as "getting a kid in a physically possible way," lol.

Is that the one where Mikey and Alicia are lesbians and stuff? That's a good one. Why didn't I remember it? Hm.

Yeah, a bit of the Mary Sue thing.

I don't read much Panic fic, s2s. I dunno why!

I think playfullips is onto something with the idea that it's partly an effort to discomfit the characters as much as possible, based on the assumption that two guys would be more comfortable parenting a son ( ... )

Mpreg fics to start with usually seem to have a lot less to do with the kid and a lot more to do with the experience of pregnancy.

This is true, and I'm just noticing that now. Thanks. (I've been reading mpreg for years, but never bothered to have thinkity thoughts about it. It's mpreg, srsly.)

Pete shopping for dresses and learning to french braid and having tea parties with his daughter has an adorableness factor that is inherently higher than Pete shopping for those baby sweater vests and ties or playing with trains with his son.

But! Baby sweater vests, omg. Idk. Tiny clothes are just overall preciousness to me. The useless little shoooooes.

Which supports the theory that I, at least, am reacting to gender...stuff.

Yeah. That makes a lot of sense, and I think you explained it pretty well. I understood it, anyway :D

Like I said, it doesn't really bug me, per se, it's just interesting, and your thoughts are even more interesting. Thank you!

I'm not a big Mpreg fan, actually. I'm not not a fan, but Mpreg stories usually feel very rote to me. Home pregnancy tests, denial, mood swings, high risk, someone almost dies during the delivery process, etc. I feel like I've read the same story a million times, just with different names. I'd be much more interested if people would focus on the "raising a kid together" aspect, if only because it hasn't been written to death. Pete teaching his daughter to put on eyeliner is golden! I want Patrick at PTA meetings!

If Pete and Patrick somehow ended up raising a baby boy together, I like to imagine that Pete would take great delight in dressing the kid as much like Patrick as possible, up to and including little hats in case the baby is self-conscious about his bald spot. Also, their kid would have a ridiculously awesome shoe collection.

Yeah, I don't really care about mpreg either way, right, which is probably why I've never bothered thinking deeply on it.

Yes! Yes! Please!

Hee! Indeed! *claps happily*

That's the thing, right. As soon as someone says, "Oh, there are no boys in kidfic," you can all of a sudden think of a half-dozen fics with boys. But whatevs. I think the (imaginary, wholly theoretical) statistics are definitely skewed toward girls.

That is the most amazing description of what Patrick does EVER.

\o/

Eh, knee-jerk reactions are underrated. I didn't put any conscious thought into why Joe and Marie should have three (THREE) infant daughters. I just knew that they should. *shrug*

I know what you mean about the instinct being different with different characters, too. (Oh god, don't bring up the XF baby, no no no. I'd blocked the trauma.)

This is the most useless comment I've left on LJ in at least two weeks. *g*

Hey, what can I say? It's mpreg!
