1. PATRICK. PATRICK STUMP. I MISSED YOU. NEVER STOP. NEW MUSIC. I like "New Regrets" better, a bit--it's more cohesive/coherent--but they're both so good. Because he's AWESOME. (The sarcasm vs. earnestness vibe of "Oh Nostalgia" is so great, also. UGH. I LOVE HIM. TINY ANGRY MUSICAL GENIUS ( Read more... )

The nostalgia is more aggressive and demands more from the listener. New Regrets is more listener/radio friendly, but also fresher and a larger step forward. I decided to vote New Regrets.

but, anyway. PATRICK!! :D :D

he is a lyricist--he knows how to put words to music, he knows how to make sense of things lyrically with music.

That is a good distinction. Pete's a poet, at the heart of it - he knows how to create images with words and create a particular mood with his work. I like the Black Cards songs, but the lyrics are put together a little awkwardly at points. Whoever's working with Pete at the moment, it's not the same person who grew up rearranging his words into logical progressions.

Patrick's lyrics still need a little work at some points, but you're right, he knows how things are supposed to fit into a song. "Spotlight" is actually much better than I expected (I don't know what I expected, TBH - he could have come up with just about anything); I didn't think I could be any more excited for the prospect of his album, but I am. GIVE ME THAT WHOLE ALBUM RIGHT NOW. Ugh.
