Habits

To anyone reading this:
Have you ever broken a very long standing habit?
How did you go about it, and do you have any advice for me?
Thanks! I'm trying to stop picking at my legs, and it's sort of kicking my butt. I'll be good for a week or so, and then start again.

I am seeing a therapist, although not a cognitive behavioral therapist. I've had bad experience with them, unfortunately. The first and only one I ever saw gave me a panic attack during a session and didn't even really notice.

I still think that kissing you to distract you from it is a decent method... but I'm biased ;)

Honestly, being rewarded somehow every time you notice (and thus stop) is a big help in noticing more often, and thus slowly moving from consciously not continuing the behavior to passively discontinuing entirely.

Now if only I could stop picking at my eyebrows :/ (in my defense, they itch)
