Dyson spheres

I guess my question is, if a mature civilization gets to the point of needing to surround their sun to catch every possible solar EU, isn't it too late already, or wouldn't the chances be that the sun would be too old by the time the civilization got to that point in their technology? Just a thought.

I don't understand. Are you saying that the time it takes to build Dyson Sphere technology is longer than the life-span of a star?

No, I was thinking more that by the time a civilization has reached the point of technology that they could build a Dyson Sphere, then the star would be too old to give the energy needed. I realize later that that would depend on the rate of gaining the tech and someone pointed out to me that said civilization wouldn't necessarily have to use their own star.
