Gosh, that wasn't fun at all, let's not do that again.

Both kids are napping at the moment - Charlie because it's naptime, Andrew because he's tired. To be honest, so am I, but I want to write about the first couple of days before I forget in a haze of exhaustion and jet-lag.

SLEEP WHEN THE CHILDREN SLEEP.

EAT WHEN THE CHILDREN EAT.

FOLD LAUNDRY WHEN THE CHILDREN FOLD LAUNDRY.

I agree, children should learn to fold laundry! I distinctly recall going with my DAD to the laundromat to do laundry and fold my own when it came out of the dryer.

Liam had to wear nighttime pull-ups all through kindergarten, but I knew we had to wean him off before first grade for reasons. So, part of that process was Bill waking him up to go pee around 2 am (Bill's a night owl) and then taking Liam back to bed. It worked like a charm!

How long did you have to do that before Liam either did it on his own, or just stopped needing to do it? (And at what point in his sleep cycle was 2am for him?)

Seriously, there is NO advice anywhere on the internet on how to night-train an older kid. Or even a younger kid. OMG, such a pain.

I want to say 1-2 months, and it strangely didn't really affect Liam's sleep cycle. Bill thinks Liam actually pee'd while still mostly asleep. But that may not be your experience with Andrew! Let me double-check the time table.

Bill remembers it taking a bit longer, but I reckon that's a personal thing. I do know Liam's doctor said it takes some kids, particularly boys, longer for their bladders to mature.

Oh! What's the time difference now from Eastern/New York time? I reckon it's likely 7 like Greece...?

Yup, seven hours. I don't know what DST will do to it.

I would take a medal. I would also take chocolate. I would totally take a medal made of chocolate.

Yep, I have to wear an abaya whenever I leave the compound where we live. I don't have to wear a hijab, ever, though there are places where I should at least put a scarf or something over my head. The bonus of the abaya is that I can wear whatever I like underneath and no one is the wiser. I can go out and about in the city, but I need to call a driver from the consulate motorpool (who are at spouses' disposal for this exact reason, since we can't drive ourselves and aren't allowed to use public transportation for security reasons).

There is a store on the compound, about the size of a 7-11, and I've been there several times. It's mostly imported stuff, though, so kind of pricey. I just made a post about my two grocery shopping trips that talks more about this.
