Aw, this was lovely. I love Jackie in this. I love her obvious love for Rose, and her wisdom as a mother (including her wisdom in admitting that the Doctor works in mysterious ways) and her speaking up for the Doctor.

"He did not dare speak, for fear of the words he might say."

Oh, what a lovely chapter! How wonderful that Rose could see Jackie again and tell her about the baby; Jackie was so sweet to her!

But, whose voice was it that Rose almost recognized?

There's a total of three voices Rose hears while she's walking the path. The first bits are a conversation - the dialog is actually lifted straight out of Chapter Nine, and it's the conversation between the Doctor and the Duke. She's almost recognizing the Doctor's voice - she doesn't quite, because she's sort of out of time, as well as out of body, and she's not entirely certain who she is, either, for that matter.

The third voice, of course, is just the one word - "Rose" - which makes her turn down the alternate path, leading to Jackie's garden. The voice is Jackie's, calling to her daughter - unknowingly on her part, but in a way, Jackie never stops calling, hoping to see Rose again.

And those are two important points for Part Four, I'll have you know, so take note. Aren't you glad you asked?
