Thought I'd share these with those interested. (Those who I'm actually going to see in the States: I'll be printing off copies of them for you to look at, so don't worry about peeking here.)
The thing about silk-on-silk rugs is that they appear to change color, depending on where you stand and how the nap runs. So from one side they appear light:
And from the other, dark. (Sometimes, they also appear to have a cat on them.)
This particular rug is highly detailed - Iranian carpets are considered by many to be the best in the world. Thus, some close-up shots for you to consider:
The sign of a good rug is the rear. If the design is as clear and beautiful as the correct side, then it's considered good. (There's other factors as well, but this is a good rule of thumb.) The following two pictures are the same section of rug, from both sides. Usually, the lighter side is the wrong side - so I'll look at this gorgeous dark rug in the store and hate the wrong side!
This particular rug has a leather runner on either long side to help it from buckling or becoming distorted. Here I've flipped it against the center medallion.
I love my rug!!!!! I folded it up today so the cats can't get to it while we're gone. Pwetty wug.....
