Yup - tea, after all, is not actually native to England, and therefore must be shipped in, which during WW2 was quite dangerous. It remained rationed until the early 50s, although special allowances were made for those over a certain age after 1944.
Good point. They must have had quite a bit of trouble importing it from ... where ever tea comes from. Um...India, I think. Chalk this up to being something I never thought about before.
There are about five recipes for potato pancakes of different sorts in the cookbook. Really, it all comes down to mashing veggies and then frying them.
