Things are starting to open up here as we're crossing the 50% threshold for vaccinations...heading back to Europe feels like heading back in time and I'm worried that we're going to go back to being cooped up just as I'm starting to wrap my head around being able to leave the house.

Whereas I look back to the States and all I hear about are stores and restaurants remaining open to customers, people refusing to wear masks, that nothing has changed and there's no checks to see how badly the virus has spread. I don't like the lockdown, don't get me wrong, but I'm very, very glad it exists.

At the moment, both testing and vaccination are free and walk-up - it's so weird in the US to walk in, get health care, and walk out without paying anything. But over half of US adults have gotten at least one shot, and 31% have gotten both, which is pretty good world-wide and so things are slowly opening up relatively safely. But that's the POV of someone who lives in Metro NOVA and Minneapolis, both of which are pretty liberal and pro health-care/pro-mask. Latvia is locked down pretty hard, and will likely continue throughout the summer, because their vaccination numbers are about 10%, so they're doing what they should be doing.
