Summary: The Sorceress confronts DG.
Chapters so far She threw off her overcoat at her aide as soon as she entered the castle. Leaving them at the door, she and Zero and his men walked inside. Apparently, The Sorceress knew where she was going.
Soon, Zero heard voices coming from a room. Before they could enter, they could hear what was being said. "There is one thing that can stop her. The Emerald of the Eclipse." Zero didn't recognise the voice but did recognise the name. There was incoherent whispers before: "The secret of finding it now lives inside of you. When the time was right, you will return."
"Mother never could leave well enough alone," The Sorceress steamed inside, loudly announcing their presence. The occupants whirled. Cain reached for his weapon but quickly judged that resistance was futile.
"Azkadellia," Ambrose muttered. As I live and breathe. Figured he was dead. That's happening a lot. His man retrieved the weapon and brought to Zero. He took it with a smile and holstered it.
"You're my sister!" DG declared, as if shocked or disgusted. Disgusted fitted better, he decided. 'Cut that out!' Zero smirked at the thought.
"DG," The Sorceress replied, as if wistful.. "The little sister I thought I no longer had. I always wondered what you would look like."
"Leave her alone!" Ambrose ordered with a lot of force. Well, that is so cute.
"What do you want?" DG demanded. Hmm, don't teach a lot of manners on the Other Side.
"Well, up until a moment ago, I wanted your death," she replied. "But now it seems, you have something I need."
"What?" DG asked her.
"The Emerald," The Sorceress answered. "You know where it is." DG looked mystified. "Don't tell you haven't dreamed of it. Heard it calling to you, begging to be found in its dark hiding place."
Eying her like she was crazy and stupid, DG shook her head. "No, I haven't."
"No?"
"No."
"What did she whisper? In your ear?"
"I don't remember!"
The Sorceress believed her. She put on a 'sympathetic' face. "That's a shame."
"How can I tell you what I don't know?" DG asked her in frustration. The Sorceress used her magic to make a lantern appear in her hands.
In it, the Queen cried out. "DG! Where are you?"
"Mother?" The Sorceress tossed it to her. The Queen called out again before disappearing. "What have you done with her?"
"Put her away for safe keeping," she breezed. "Like any good daughter would."
"Where?" she demanded.
"Somewhere where you will never find her," The Sorceress told her, her sugary voice gone. DG absorbed this before smashing the lantern on the ground. The magic released from the object rolled towards them. Zero choked on the fumes. Knowing that the DG squad would have used the time to escape, he pulled out Cain's own gun. A hand intercepted it, also belonging to Cain. His knee went to Zero's stomach and Zero lost the grip of the gun and it went clattering to the ground.
Cain reached forward to retrieve it but Zero returned the favour and kicked his knee. His own knee went up and landed in Cain's ribs, sending him back. He pulled up his armoured arm and ploughed it into Cain's face, sending him down to the ground. His head ringing, Cain lifted his finger to his mouth and saw that he was bleeding.
Zero retreated slightly, running his hand through hair. His men moved towards Cain. "Now I know why they call you Zero," he gasped, picking himself up. "Still can't fight your own battles."
Ooh! Baiting me! Let him have his 'moment'. "I do my share," Zero replied, waving his men away. Cain flew at him with a couple of punches. Using his armour, he deflected them before throwing a punch of his own at Cain which connected, throwing him back. Cain returned it. His men waited no longer, one of them grabbing Cain while the other delivered several punches to his torso. Wrestling himself free, Cain faced Zero, only to get a punch to the chest. Zero grabbed his head firmly before sending it speeding into his knee. Ignoring the dull pain his knee, Zero pulled Cain's face up to face him. He smiled at him before throwing down his armour. Cain collapsed and he took stock, brushing his hair back once more.
He remembered Cain's weapon. He walked over and picked it up. "No iron suit for you this time. No wife and child crying for years to free you from it."
"My family's alive?" Cain asked him.
Oops. He recovered quickly. "Hardly matters now." Let him wonder. Turns out, that's more painful anyway. He laughed, cocking the weapon. Realising that his death was on hand, Cain pushed himself up to stand. Zero pointed his weapon and fired. The force of the blast sent Cain flying through the window. Zero stepped towards the opening and peered out. There was an ice hole at the bottom. Hmm. Ice Hole. He looked at the weapon. He had no use for souvenirs. He dropped it to the floor. Playtime's over.
