Question

Planning to travel to Spain with Munchkin this winter.
Questions :
Car seat vs. CARES system for the plane seat (the kiddo has his own seat, not traveling on my lap this time)?
How to travel through airports with the child, a stroller and a car seat?
Any advise on surviving the travels?

Don't worry about stroller/carseat, you can check both at the gate. I personally prefer to fly w/out the carseat, but that's because G falls asleep much easier when she has bodily contact with me. We just flew to Boston, she slept with her head in my lap, no carseat.

What did help me a lot (until she was about 2, I guess) was a baby carrier -- going through security was a breeze. Also, remember that they have family lines at the airport security checkpoints, and those are generally shorter and sometimes kid-friendlier. Look for green signs :). And good luck!!

ETA:

For the flight, bring a combination of favorite books/ toys and some brand new ones. Also, for us magnetic toys seem to be a палочка-выручалочка. Pack some small toys in all pockets of carry-on luggage, so you have something always handy if needed.

To answer your question: given a stroller, a carseat and a child: carseat into the stroller, child into the carrier, and you're all set.
