Mushi are kind of hard to describe. They're ubiquitous creatures with supernatural powers. They are in touch with the essence of life, far more basic and pure than normal living things. Due to their ethereal nature most humans are incapable of perceiving Mushi and are oblivious to their existence, but there are a few who possess the ability to see and interact with Mushi. Like Ginko and a specific character in each episode.
It's a really strange show but I find it strangely attractive.
I guess it kind of depends on what your definition of a long series is. It's 26 episodes, which considering the other anime I watch, isn't long at all.
