There are so many things about Boromir's death that break my heart every time I watch that scene - one which I'd forgotten till last night is the moment when, leaving him dying on his knees, the Uruk-hai scoop up Merry and Pippin and... just stream past him, ignoring him completely. The thing I liked best, at the time, was I still had access to newsgroups from my work computer & on rassf (?: book SF & fantasy discussions) ... and it was the world's biggest book club meeting. Everyone chose that winter to reread Tolkien & oh, the discussions! Wonderful.

As for Théoden's speech - I still think one of the reasons RoTK disappointed me in the cinema was that they cut together all the best bits of the film to put in the trailer. "Where now the horse and the rider..." - sob, sob.
(Or was that the TTT trailer? Arrgh, far too long since I've watched them...)
