Today's silly to chortle with over your coffee (though beware monitor/beverage contact...): the THES's inevitable annual list of students' exam howlers  (Care opening at work, the headline is rather eye-catching!)

I feel mean-spirited laughing (we can all commit howlers in writing, after all, especially under exam stress), but the results are,

The Martin Luther King confusion is astonishing, although wiki informs me that he was named for his predecessor.

Quite. The spoonerisms one can forgive under stress (though the West Bank one is particularly unfortunate...) but to think that the theologian and the civil rights activist could be the same person, you're either copying and pasting from the Web with no attention whatsoever, or you're seriously chronologically confused! (Suspect the former, meself...)

I once had an examination where I forgot how to spell 'the'; luckily after the first hour or so I remembered, and could go back and fill in all the gaps.
