It was lots of fun, but bore almost no resemblance to the book whatsoever! (I think in an odd way that helped - unlike the first part last year, where I kept being jolted by thinking "but hang on, that's not right", it so quickly became apparent that this was a piece of total Peter Jackson AU fanfic that I decided just to enjoy it as "loosely inspired by"...
Though I still think some bits - particularly all that nonsense with the golden king while trying to escape Smaug - didn't make sense even on their own terms. Not that that prevented us all enjoying ourselves as we scoffed our popcorn.
I'm glad to hear it was a pleasant experience - I've read some reviews where the viewers were utterly disappointed; both from people not in the Tolkienverse fandom, though; perhaps it's more difficult to accept the "PJ AU" when one is not into this fandom? I also fully agree with some things not making real sense or being overdone but still being tremendous fun.
