In the midst of all the RL madness (housebuying, sorting out First Small Person's secondary school place for next year, work...)

we made it to Stratford to see Richard II! )

Thanks for the review, makes me want to see it even more. Alas, no ticket and the local cinema broadcasts are all sold out... I shall have to wait for the dvd! *g*

You would enjoy the costuming and set-dressing! Given that it's going to be in cinemas I'm sure there'll be a DVD at some point...

I had that experience on seeing Patrick Stewart in live theater (it was an Ibsen play, forget which one) in London years ago. I'd gone to see him but was really impressed by the whole cast. Wonderful when that happens.

I really enjoyed your review. Partly because it gave such a good feel for the more personal side of your experience - as a friend, that's often the most fun part! I'm glad you had a good time.

Patrick Stewart is fabulous - he was amazing with DT in Doran's Hamlet. But yes, there's nothing like a really strong ensemble cast - especially a play like this one which actually has quite a small cast of key characters.

I'm glad you enjoyed the review. Whenever I read other people's posts (or go back and re-read posts I made) after big events like this, it's the little peripheral details that bring it to life.

You will love it. (And I am dying to hear about it, because of course it's a broadcast of a specific performance, and not the one I saw, so it'll be more different even than if two of us had watched the same performance on DVD...)

I do hope they manage to get the cameras well-placed and work out the shots, etc, so that it works well for a cinema audience. My Mum has managed, on my recommendation, to get a ticket for the live November cinema showing here in the UK, so I feel kind of responsible for her enjoying it!
