I'm still wanting for all the fan-girl shock/horror when Fili, Kili and Thorin die on screen! Going from a few Hobbit fanfics I've read... some of them haven't quite realised that yet.

It's very touching the SSP feels empathy with these fictional characters, although I can well understand how it makes you feel to discover him sobbing. Bless him!

Books and films frequently leave me in tears - films more so, but then they are often specifically designed to tug at heartstrings. What I do find hard to fathom is that it simply never occured to me that I could re-write the endings I didn't like, not for years, and years. Now, though only for LotR, I find myself virtually re-writing the entire book! ~_^

Bwa ha ha haaa to fangurlz (and boyz). JRRT may not exactly be a realist, but understandably he was no romantic about battle and war and their consequences...
