A solstice mathom from the Powers-verse for all my LJ/DW/online/fandom friends; thank you for bringing light into some of my darker corners this year

I'd been vaguely musing on how some of my favourite carols are those which are thought to have very old, and in some cases pagan roots, and that somehow linked in my mind to "Tra-la-la-lally" and the idea that everyone thinks Elves just witter on about singing and dancing in the woods and that there might be something darker behind it... and then The Holly and the Ivy came on the radio and I said "AhHA!" and it wrote itself.

What a lovely thing to say! I am almost blushing. And it is an excellent present.
I have my December music on in the car - Loreena McKennitt's Midwinter Night's Dream and it often makes me think of Elves - she has one of the few voices that really can 'ring like a bell' some of the time. (If you are not familiar, the whole album is on You-tube; her version of the Holly and the Ivy is a bit too stately for Legolas, I think!).
But, almost the opposite of Elven winter songs, this always makes me think of their Summer celebrations.
