LJI - failure

I am an armchair activist. A slacktivist. I talk a good game, but I can't go out there into the thick of things and try to bring about change. I admire those who can, but I am not brave enough ( Read more... )

My fear (even though I'm not American) is that there WILL be another failure in November. I have never claimed to understand US politics and how it all works, in spite of people trying to explain it to me. The man is a bully and a criminal and why the hell did they even bother to impeach him when THEY WEREN'T GOING TO REMOVE HIM FROM OFFICE WHEN THEY DID SO??? Sorry, I can't understand that. I understand Clinton got impeached too, but I'm pretty sure he didn't do anything even remotely close to as shitty as Trump. Gah. I'm going to stay out of it. I have to. I don't think you're going to get what you want, unfortunately. And if you don't, when will they kick him out of office for his crimes? He can't be immune to the law. He just can't...

I feel for you about your frustration with your parents, but in some respects, I think the people who fall into the category of my parents are even worse... they are fundamentalist christians who can't support Trump but they recognize he's nothing like the man that inspires their faith, and they don't understand anyone who can, but they regularly worship with people who choose the conservative agenda despite saying they don't support THAT man, but still tow the part line because it's the right path to connecting people to christian values, and when you bring it up, they just don't want to get involved in discussing political issues that drive wedges between people, but instead just want to focus on living a christlike life and hope that's a good enough example. In my opinion, they might as well be the everyday folks not in danger of being taken who looked the other way during the holocaust. They may be the most dangerous of all, because their silence speaks volumes, and I'm so afraid that when those numbers effectively add to those ( ... )

There is bravery in vulnerability. Not everyone's activism can look the same, and any way you can contribute, even if it is from home or behind a keyboard, is valuable.

I feel you on trying to fit activism into life and not always being sure I’m spending enough energy on it. I’ve got to hope that we also influence people by living our values and not only by flying protest flags high. These are definitely interesting times to be living in.
