He usually didn’t woke up until past ten, what with his job being low pressure, and even though he had three daughters to consider, his wife always took care of that in the morning. His job was low pressuring, in the aspect that he had no schedule to follow, but it was very demanding, especially when there was a deadline to meet.

But it was Christmas holidays now, so he had no work to do for the next week. So, why was he up at seven in the morning? Well, that was simple. You see, his wife was a famous fashion designer, and as such, had a much more demanding job when it came to meet deadlines, and, unlike him, had bastardly customers that demanded unbelievably complex dresses designs for Christmas parties.

Which is why he wasn’t surprised when he found her sleeping on her office, pencil in one hand while the other pillowed her head.

The sight amused him as much as it saddened him, and he was very tempted to pick her up and carry her to their bed, but he knew she would only wake up and return to her work.

Even so, there should be something he could do to help her… maybe…

An idea popped up in his head, and with a brilliant smile on his face, he proceeded to, very, very carefully, pick his wife up and carry her to their room. After putting her down and cover her with the sheets, he left the room quietly, ready to put his plan in motion.

Shawn racked his fingers through his hair, tugging nervously at his low ponytail and sighing tiredly. Thank the Gods his three beautiful daughters finally calmed enough for him to explain their situation. The girls were very excited to help him treat mommy like a Queen, of course, because that mainly meant they were free to let their imagination run wild.

“So, what do we do, daddy?” asked his eldest daughter.

Shawn smiled at her, at the three of them, watching their smiley and eager faces for a while, before answering. “First, you get dress, then join me downstairs to eat breakfast and prepare a special breakfast for mommy… Quietly!” he added as a second thought, knowing well his daughter tended to get over excited in times like these.

“Okay!” chorused the two eldest.

Nodding at them, he picked up the baby to begin preparing for the day. After changing and dressing his baby girl, he went downstairs, where his two other daughters were waiting for him, trying to be quiet while they set the table but failing miserably.

“Girls…” he warned, but there was no reprimanding in his voice.

The girls giggled and managed to finish their task silently. “All ready, daddy,” they chorused, waiting for another task to do.

But Shawn new better, and not wanting to cause unnecessary ruckus, he sent them to watch cartoons. He fed the baby, taking care of not dirtying her clothes, and once he was done, picked her up and carried her to the living room, where her sister had finally settled down.

“Rachel, watch your sister while I prepare breakfast for us, okay?”

His eldest daughter nodded, and moved to the floor to sit with the baby, and kept watching the cartoons.

Once they had eaten their breakfast and were all set to go put his plan together, Shawn wrote a brief note to Sora, explaining nothing at all, and left it next to her breakfast. He called his girls, and picked up Yuki from her highchair, heading to the garage. Making sure all his daughter were well seated on their respective car seats, he climbed into the car and started it.

“Where are we going, daddy?” asked Kaoru, excitedly from her place.

“To the mall, we need to… ehh, go pick up the presents Santa can’t bring with him for Christmas.”

“Why can’t he bring them, daddy?”

He saw Rachel roll her eyes at her sister, but said otherwise nothing. She had learned last year the Santa wasn’t real, and surprisingly enough didn’t make such a fuss, as she had suspected it for a while.

“Well, honey, there are too many children around the world, and they ask for too many toys, so Santa asks us daddy to help him give them for Christmas. He is getting old, you see, and having to carry around too many toys could be bad, you know?”

“Oh…”

Shawn thought with a relieved sigh that Kaoru was done with the questions, but he should’ve known better.

“So, you know Santa, daddy?”

Hours later, Shawn was taking a little break from shopping. He decided to sit near a small playground, to let Kaoru play while he checked what else he needed to buy. Yuki was sleeping peacefully on her carriage and Rachel was eating some ice cream next to him (why she wanted ice cream when it was freaking cold was beyond him).

After they arrived at the mall, and by some sort of miracle, he’d managed to avoid answering any of Kaoru’s questions about Santa, the little girl got quickly distracted with all the decoration around them and forgot completely about him as she ran ahead, Rachel following her steps closely. He owned his eldest daughter much for entertaining Kaoru while he shopped, otherwise he knew there’d be another round of questions.

“You do know mom is going to be upset when she finds out that you took away her fun by buying all the presents, right?”

Rachel was smiling amusedly as she said this, looking at Kaoru, and he chuckled a bit.

“Yes, I know, but it’s for her own good, trust me.”

His daughter nodded slowly, finishing her ice cream, and then turned to look at him. “So, where are we going after you finish Santa’s shopping?”

Shawn laughed and ruffled her hair. “You three are going to stay with grandma for a few hours, while I finish some things I have to do.”

Sora opened her tired eyes, not really wanting to wake up fully, but knowing she must for there were things to do, deadlines to meet and a family to take care of. As she struggled against sleepiness, she realized the house was way too quiet to be morning and, if the chirping birds and the glaring sunrays were any indication, it most definitely was morning. Panic rushed into her and Sora sat up, ready to sprint out of the bed in search of her babies when a crumpled piece of paper caught her attention.

It was resting on her pillow, and for the looks of it, she crumpled it sometime during her slumber. Picking it up, Sora read the contents and a soft smile graced her face.

“I’m taking the girls to do some Christmas shopping. Don’t worry, I won’t buy all the presents, I know how much you love the job. Now, breakfast is waiting for you in the kitchen, and I want you to forget about work and all that for today. Relax, darling, you deserve a break and I’ll make sure to give it to you.”

Sora’s smile widened and she kissed the note tenderly before folding it carefully and placing it in a book for safekeeping. “Oh, darling… you’re too good for me.”

Since, Sora decided, giving herself a day to relax wouldn’t make too much of an impact on her schedule, she would take her husband’s advice and spend the day relaxed. And the first thing on her carefree list, was to see what her darling husband made her for breakfast.

Maybe later, if her workaholic side stayed quiet enough, she’ll make herself a bubble bath as well.

He was glad when, after returning from the shopping later that day, his lovely wife informed him of the “sudden” call from her boss telling her she could take a break from work, at least until after New Year’s, because the designs did not had a deadline. He was even gladder though, when she informed him of their equally sudden dinner date.

“So… what brought this on?” he asked, while trying to adjust his tie, and failing miserably.

Sora smiled amused as she saw him wrestle with his tie, and sighed. “Well… as I have more free time now, I decided to give my dear husband an early Christmas present for getting me time off from work,” she said as she fixed his tie. “There, all done.”

“Whatever would I do without you?”

Sora giggled at his puppy dog expression and patted his head. “Absolutely nothing, dear.”

Once they were all ready to go, babysitter in place to look after their daughters, they left for their dinner date. The evening was lovely, the food excellent, and the company, well, of course it was the best they could ever hope for. Traditional food was a favorite of them, so the restaurant they went to was only the best in town.

After dinner they went for a stroll in the park, the cool winter air winding through their bodies, sweeping up the fallen snow and making the moment feel magical. They bundled together on a bench, watching the snow fall around them and glisten with the light from the lamps of the park.

“I heard you took away my fun of presents shopping,” she said teasingly after a while of being silent.

“I believe I did,” he replied, then grinned mischievously. “But you took away my fun of sharing a bubble bath with you.”

Sora giggled, as if she were just a school girl facing the boy she had a crush on, and such action was simply too precious for him to miss. He watched her, like he hadn’t had a chance of doing in weeks really, what with their hectic schedules as of late. He absolutely loved the way her hair shined, sometime acquiring a honeyed shade that made it all the more endearing to him. Then there were her eyes, two crimson orbs that shone with every emotion she possessed. But what had him completely wrapped around her little finger, was her smile; that slight curve of lips that could lit up a whole room, his whole world, just about any time.

Her smile was the one thing he loved most about her.

Not being able to resist any longer, he pulled her chin up and kissed her passionately. He would’ve liked to keep going on for eternity, or at the very least, to prolong it, but being in public, even in an almost deserted park, would not do.

Breaking the kiss and smiling slightly at her dazed expression, he spoke. “Let’s go home.”

Sora blinked several time to gather her wits, but then it was she the one smiling mischievously. “Missing the girls that much?”

His smile turned tender then, as an overwhelming loved descended over him. “Yeah, but right now, I’m missing my wife more.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sora didn’t believe there was a more perfect moment than this one.
The next few days passed by quickly and before anyone had the chance to blink, Christmas had arrived, along with all the excitement and happiness that always came with it.
He daughters were sitting happily by the tree handing out presents and opening their own. Kaoru was squealing happily as she saw that Santa had brought her all the toys she’d asked. Little Yuki cooed along with her older sister, sitting comfortably on her father’s lap, and Rachel was simply watching it all calmly from her spot next to her.
“Are you enjoying this morning, mom?”
Sora smiled at her, stroking her head lovingly before turning to look at her beloved, who decided to turn to her at the precise moment and send her a killer smile. She returned it, feeling the warm sensation she associated with her family spreading through her chest.
“Yes, honey. How could I not?”
After all, it’s Christmas.
