Bri's take on our first day in Athens is here! And since it worked so well last time: Bri, you can't read this post until you've done your own second day post

I find those theatres very impressive. When I was in Greece, it was an organised tour and I think it was also only two days in Athens. But there were also stops at other places, one of them was Epidaurus which also has a huge theatre. While I didn't experience a performance there either, by walking around you were able to witness the remarkable acoustics of the place.
or some employees whose job it could be to help visitors get photos of themselves and the site. Another blogger friend recently went to India where she and her husband visited the Taj Mahal. And there they have photographers who offer their services to follow you around the site and take your picture and who also show you the best places to take photos. At the end you get a CD with the files burned on it. While I would also always use the "I photograph you - you photograph me" strategy of helping out fellow tourists, you apparently can negotiate an affordable price.

Oh my goodness, Epidaurus looks amazing! I didn't notice anything especially impressive about the acoustics at the one site we were able to walk around in (The Theatre of Dionysus) but I imagine it's probably different in the better preserved locations like the Epidaurus and Herodion theatres.

Yeah, that would totally be worthwhile as well to many, I think. For most people, they will probably only visit these sites once in their lives, so a nice shot is a terrific keepsake.
I'm amused by the thought to encounter this sentence in an official travel guide.
I would love a second career as a travel guide writer! ;) Perhaps something to look into when I finally throw the towel in on law.

when we first started out, it was a rather cool morning ... only I didn't have a bag or anything to put it in I thought that rising temperatures were the reason you took off some clothes. I just wasn't able to explain why you put it on your belt. Now it's clear. :)
I don't think you can see turtles in the wild where I live (only it it escaped from someone at home) so I would've been fascinated seeing a turtle crawling around.
How long ago did you visit? That was more than twenty years ago. I was still a teenager and in school. I went there with my uncle. It was the first time I boarded an airplane. But even back then everything in Greece was in ruins. :)
It's kind of baffling that something like the Erechtheion has been standing for so long, and yet is such an impressive looking bit of architecture. I just cannot fathom how people were so motivated to erect such structures without any of the modern conveniences that builders have at their disposal today.
Great pictures Sunshine. Shame you couldn't really get all up in the mix with those columns. Just looking at the pics, I want to climb on them! CURIOUS GEORGE!

lol, well I imagine slaves did most of the labor so the designers weren't too worried about the work involved, I guess ;) But I think I know what you mean ;)
Great pictures Sunshine.
Bri took many of them, but thanks!

It would be nice to know someone who knows someone who could arrange a behind the scenes tour, wouldn't it? ;)
I went in the summer between my junior and senior year. My adviser was our tour guide, actually. She's cute and blonde and got hit on all the time even though her husband was there.
They also have some strange rules about who can act as a guide. She had to keep proving she really was a professor.
I had a great time though! I loved Olympus and Santorini in particular.
