I don’t know anything about the comic or the movie, but judging by the comments on the Bedard Twitter feed I set up to keep up with tweets about Erik, Tony Bedard is equally a genius or has flushed the Green Lantern series down the toilet. I suppose you can feel free to blame him for whatever goes wrong with the movie as well. :-/
**laughs** I had to look up who Tony Bedard is, but now I understand. Since he's affiliated with the comic, I will actually reserve my judgment for others.
I'm glad this has warmed you up to the movie a bit. Sadly, if anything, it has put me off more. I have no great love for GL, so I'm not bringing much in the way of pre-conceived notions to what I think this movie should be. However, from what I'm seeing the problem I'm having is it seems like this movie is very weightless. It's the same problem I have with a lot of other overly CGI'ed movies, like the Star Wars prequels. There just doesn't seem like there is anything on screen to latch onto. I feel like I've seen examples of aliens/monsters/the strange in other movies that are similar to the Green Lanterns which have used practical makeup to a much greater effect. Abin Sur, the guy who you seem to dig, sounds cool, but did he really need to be CGI-augmented in the earlier shots? I don't know what they did to him, but he has this glow about him that just seems unnatural -- and not in a good way. Same for Sinestro

I can see what you mean. I also worry that the effects and some of the action sequences look just too silly and unrealistic to be any true fun. Like Ghost Rider.
I felt like Hal's first declaring of the GL Oath was comical, even though that is meant to be a moment of gravitas. A lot of that is Reynolds' fault though. He's a good actor at what he does, but supremely miscast here. I'm not saying he should have been cast, but just imagine an actor like Jon Hamm saying the exact same thing. Or any other actor that you can actually take seriously for that matter. That moment actually does sorta
