It's been sunny and serviceably warm this weekend, so today, rickenbacker and I went down to DC to mill about and get some non-freezing fresh air.

Smithsonian Castle looks nice. Do you know what's inside?

I'm very jealous that you were already able to walk around in spring-like weather conditions. I know you guys had more than your fair share of snow but here it seems to be more spread out through all of winter. It snowed again over the weekend and the temperature will fluctuate the whole week around the freezing point. I'm pretty sick of it.

I am pretty sure there's a visitors center, where you can get information about all the museums that are part of the Smithsonian system. And I wouldn't be surprised if it also serves as a museum of the history of the Smithsonian system. Which, now that I think of it, might actually be pretty interesting. Next time we're stopping in!

I empathize :( We're definitely appreciating the respite, especially since the weather reports say we're gonna get three inches of rain later this week :/

Awesome pictures. That must have been Bri's stalking camera, right?

I'm intrigued by that Myspace picture business. Why is that such a popular spot? And why won't you go into the Smithsonian castle? Fairy tale connotation? :-P

They have the right to it, but I wonder what, other than the satisfaction that they did it, do these protests accomplish? It's not like they are getting any kind of press, are they? Do they just hope that when the President looks out his window he sees them and thinks "Ooh, that is a new topic!" and invites them to discuss it? :-P***

I'm reading the part of your forgetting you had your camera at the exhibit and I'm thinking, how can you forget such a thing? You have it right there, in your hands! But looking at the pictures in that blog explains it. They are engrossing -- and in the case of the leopard seal, mostly gross. Ick! Fascinating stuff, regardless. Paul Nicklen might be added to my list of cool Canadians to follow. ;-)

Correct!

Why is that such a popular spot?

lol, Myspace? I don't even think it is popular anymore, to tell you the truth. It's eating Facebook and Twitter's dust, last I heard. But I've never heard anyone use the phrase "Facebook picture" to describe a close-proximity shot taken of themselves :X

And why won't you go into the Smithsonian castle? Fairy tale connotation? :-P

I don't know why I'm so anti the castle! The only sign I can ever see outside just says "Visitors Center" and that just sounds really boring. Like, I don't need you to tell me where the museums are, I am perfectly capable of just stumbling around the Mall and finding them all by myself. Eventually.

It's not like they are getting any kind of press, are they? Do they just hope that when the President looks out his window he sees them and thinks "Ooh, that is a new topic!" and invites them to discuss it?Protests of one definitely don't draw any press in Washington. Maybe they hope to get the attention of tourists who come to see The White House? I don't ( ... )
