Hmm. I'd never thought of Tumblr of a place to use in lieu of LJ. It's... totally different. I just post pictures of fandoms and quotes at Tumblr, whereas I actually post things of importance at LJ.
I think the best way to take a hiatus is to not announce it. Because it always seems like 5 minutes after I make the hiatus post, I have something else to say.
I really couldn't tell you what the story is with people who have jumped ship. The only thing I can figure is that they're more comfortable just posting fandomy pictures, quotes, and youtube links, etc., and prefer to do that over at Tumblr because 1.) they don't feel like they're "spamming" if they update several times in one day, and 2.) they're not really all that interested in discussing the things that they post.
On the topic of hiatus taking - right?! I only said something because I know the last time a few people fell off into unannounced breaks, there was some concern among my f-list that "something" had happened, because nothing was posted about going off LJ long-term. But yeah, probably not so much with the announcing next time :P
I'm not really surprised about the Duchscherer thing. There was clearly SOMETHING going on. And they kept saying it wasn't health-related, so it was clearly not something physical. I figured it was either personal problems, or personal life problems. So it goes. I hope he can work through it and pitch again, but I guess we'll see.
Aww, Duke. I was kind of looking forward to his return. It makes sense though. No one gets hurt that often and for that length of time without suffering from some kind of depression.
I do hope it's just the baseball that's got him down, because like, he can work at that, you know? But I thought the agent's comment was a little weird. Like, oh, it's not real serious depression, or anything. It's the "very treatable" kind.
You're welcome! I remembered you and unloveablehands were tracking these cases, so that edit was really for your benefit. I'm glad it was of use to you.
